As a Chronic Insomnia, I can honestly say I know how you must feel. You're not on any sleeping meds? And, are you experiancing such high levels of stress that you cannot stand to sleep??

When it comes to stress levels preventing your sleep then you should probably try to take just a small ammount of time each day where you can meditate. Even if only for 10 minutes. Once you practice some breathing excersizes you'll be sitting there (laying down, whatever) and feel as if you have a new calm you've never felt before, it does take awhile to get the hang of meditating when first starting though. So be patient.
And, I suggest looking into some relaxing herbs to start taking as well. Such as Kava Kava, (sp?), St. John's Wart....and about three hours before you want to be sleeping take some Velarium Root. You can find these at most health food stores.....-Kava kava really helps take the edge off of BPD mood swings & symptoms for alot of people, and over all is just makes you feel like you're totally cool with almost everything going on, well not like you're drugged out or anything, but in control. If you choose to take these things, you'll probably have to keep it up steadily for about two or three weeks before actually noticing much of a difference, then you lower your dosage to the minimum ammount. I've taken Kava Kava & St. John's Wart in the same time-span before, but I don't reccoment combining more than two of any herb.. Also, if you drink alot of caffiene every day that really doesn't help anything on the subject of sleep. That's all of the advice I wanted to give you. |

Thank you very much. I will look into getting the herbs and I will try meditating. I've tried to meditate before but it wasn't quiet enough and I kept gettin disturbed every time I tried. Thanks for the advice though!!!

Hey,
I just want to say one more thing on the subject of meditating. Since you mentioned that you don't feel totally comfortable while meditating, if you haven't already, vizualizing a golden glow surrounding you while thinking positivities would be good. It's meant to make one feel secure. Anyway, if you've already tried that then please just ignore this. Thanks |

Wow.....I just found out that Kava Kava has been banned in the U.K-which means it is probably only a matter of time before it is banned here as well.....
Sorry to get off topic, felt the need to mention this. |

Hey there,
I'm a lousy sleeper too. I think the best advice I was given regarding dealing with insomnia is this: once you're in bed, set yourself a time limit (say, 30 minutes) in which to fall asleep. During this time, try something relaxing like listening to quiet music or meditating (as suggested by WDS). If you can't fall asleep after the time you set is up, it's best to get out of bed and do something else until you're feeling more sleepy. Then repeat the routine over again. This technique is apparently supposed to help prevent your brain from associating bed with NOT sleeping. Apart from that, the only other thing I can suggest is developing a pre-bedtime routine. This can consist of taking a warm shower or bath, having a warm drink (Camomile tea?), aromatherapy (lavender?), reading a boring book or maybe some affirmations etc. It really is a personal thing and will be a matter of trial and error until you (hopefully) find something that works for you. As for me, um yeah...I'm still searching Anyhoo, good luck with it! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I tried everything you all told me to help me sleep. Thank you, it worked. Well....Up until the past week, I have been using all of the things again but nothing is helping me just now. I am so worn down and now I am finding it really hard to cope with my school work because I am so tired!

Have you tried lavender, put some in your room by the bed, it is meant to help with sleep. How is the meditation going? Keep trying with that as it can really put you in a good place to sleep. Get some nice soothing music to listen to, maybe something by Llewellyn.
Good luck babe, keep perservering ----------------------------------------------------------------------

Had the lavender for a while but it started giving me migranes, so I had to stop using that. The meditation was going well but at the moment I have no peace when I am trying to sleep, so the meditation isn't working. Finding it quite hard to get to sleep again, but I'm going to try everything I previously used to see if any of it works again. Thanks for all the ideas, it gave me some well needed peaceful night sleeps.

I'm having a slightly different issue. I'm an insomniac, one of those hour-every-few-days types, but I've found a method that helps. I have trouble
sleeping unless it's post-coital exhaustion. Now, that'd be fine if I were the kind of guy who could actually have a long-term boyfriend. But I'm
incapable of that; I rarely sleep with a guy twice. So, in the interest of not getting AIDS, since my chances are pretty good as it is, do you have any
substitutes? I've tried meds, herbs, meditation, regular scheduling. I don't have much stress. I just can't sleep. Any help?
